Palin- The Champion of Women? (Discussion)

Peter Flores saidThu, 18 Sep 2008 06:26:04 -0000 ( Link )

Now that McCain has added gender to this historic political campaign, I’d like to know what women think of Palin. Is gender more or just as important as the other issues confronting the Presidential candidates? I know what I think of Palin but I want to get a womens point of view because I truly believe that this election will be decided by women voters. This historic Presidential election will definitely have a woman’s touch but according to women, which party will benefit the most from that touch?

I am a woman and do not think that gender, race, nationality, religion, etc. should be part of the exercise of choosing a president. I find it insulting when a new caster says so and so is very good looking so he is going to get the ladies vote. What does that have to do with being a leader?

As far as which party will benefit, I guess it depends on how shallow our voters are.

Vesnakona, I understand you want to support women, but to what end. Do you support her so much that you will vote for her just because she is a woman? Or perhaps because she is pretty? What about being the best person for the Job?

Qualities of the candidate, ireespective of his gender or for that matter language, caste, colour, creed or religion, should mainly and only matter while forming the opinion for his/her selection.

I don’t consider Palin a champion of women. She is not the first female vice presidential candidate. Ferrraro was first in the 80’s and it was Democrats that first introduced a woman on a major ticket. As a woman, I will not vote for someone I fundamentally disagree with nor is qualified for just because she is the same gender. I think that it is insulting to generalize women and assume that women have so little of a brain that they cannot see through this ploy of trying to persuade women voters by just anyone in a skirt.

I have no intention of voting for the McCain/Palin ticket but I think Sarah Palin as a woman who came up on her own is a better champion for women than Hillary Clinton a woman who thought she was entitled to the presidency because she married well.
