How to: Advanced Formatting
Formatting your Community/Course descriptions:
| How do I achieve advanced formatting? |
In order to add additional formatting to your community and/or course descriptions you have to use a bit of HTML. For example, as you see in the Photography 101 community, you can add paragraphs, bold, and italic.
To do so, you must first encase your description text in a paragraph tag:
<p>Your paragraph goes here.</p>
You can make your paragraph as long as you like.
You can bold your text by encasing them in a <strong>...</strong> tag. You can add italics to your text by encasing them in a <em>...</em> tag.
Here is how the Photography 101 community description is written:
<p><em>“The magic of photography is metaphysical. What you see in the photograph
isn’t what you saw at the time.”</em></p>
<p>Photography is the <b>art of capturing a visual moment through a camera
lens</b>. This community is the source for anyone, amateur or professional,
who is interested in photography. Learn the secrets, share your knowledge,
connect with others.</p>
The result looks like:
“The magic of photography is metaphysical. What you see in the photograph isn’t what you saw at the time.” Photography is the art of capturing a visual moment through a camera lens. This community is the source for anyone, amateur or professional, who is interested in photography. Learn the secrets, share your knowledge, connect with others. |
| Can I add a link in my description? |
Yes. This also requires some HTML. All you need to do use use the <a href> tag:
<p><a href="http://www.learnhub.com/">LearnHub. Teach and Learn, Online</a></p>
The result will be:
LearnHub. Teach and Learn, Online
Formatting your Workspace:
| Can I format my profile description the same way I format my community description? |
Of course. The profile description uses the same tag system as the community/course descriptions. So, if you follow the help above, you can use the same paragraph, bold, italics, and linking commands.
For example, here is how my (LeChuck) profile description is written:
<p><em>Your friendly neighborhood Community Manager</em></p>
<p>Swinging his feather-duster, he sails the salty wet hunting circular shinnies. What failed to burrow into his squishy thinking machine was the textbook notation that he didn't have a wooden flotation device and he currently resides in a dry climate.</p>
The result is:
