Help: Video Lesson
| Q. | How do I add my video lesson to LearnHub? |
| A. |
First, you need to have your video file on your desktop. Once you have your file ready, adding video lessons to LearnHub is easy. Please follow the below instructions or watch Mrs. Hubfellow’s video:
Mrs. Hubfellow’s Video Tour: |
| Q. | Can I add audio only lessons? |
| A. | Yes. You can upload a number of audio files (wav, mp3 for example) with the video application. To upload your audio lesson simply follow the same instructions as you would when uploading a video lesson (see above). Audio plays in the video player with a generic still background image. Click here for an example of an audio lesson. |
| Q. | What video formats are supported? |
| A. | The following video formats are supported by our system:
Note: Some uncommon video codecs may not work with the Fliqz system. We are currently working with Fliqz to add more and more codec support. If you’ve uploaded a codec that didn’t work, please e-mail support@learnhub.com with the codec you used as well as any errors you may have received. |
| Q. | What audio formats are supported? |
| A. | The following audio formats are supported by our system:
|
| Q. | What is the maximum file size allowed for uploading? |
| A. | You can not upload a video or audio file bigger than 300MB. If you try to upload files bigger than 300MB the system will automatically cancel your upload. With the right video codec you can have a 10 minute video under 150MB. |
| Q. | How do I reduce the file size (MB) of my video? | |
| A. |
If your video or audio files are over the 300MB limit, you can compress your multimedia using the latest audio or video codec. Compressing video requires Video Editing Software (Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, FinalCutPro) or a 3rd Party Compression Software. A full lesson has been created to help you compress your video or audio here. |
Fact: A video codec is a device or software that enables digital video compression and/or decompression. The compression usually employs lossy data compression.

| Q. | My Sorenson 3 Video encoded files wont process… |
| A. | Sorenson Video 3 is a very popular QuickTime codec commonly used by software programs. Currently, we are having technical difficulties when processing the Sorenson format to our FLV format. Because of this, your video will hang on the processing screen indefinitely. To fix this issue you must re-encode your video with a different video codec. I highly recommend the H.264 or MPEG4 compressor. We are working closely with Fliqz to work out this bug and we expect the issue to be resolved soon. |
| Q. | Will my videos/audio lose quality if I upload to LearnHub? |
| A. | While FLV compressed video retains excellent quality, your large format video (HD for example) will be reduced in size and quality in order for your video lesson to stream seamlessly on the internet. This is an unavoidable aspect of internet video, no matter what website you upload too. We pride ourselves on retaining the highest possible quality while still streaming internet fast and with little to no load time.

| Q. | How long will my video take to upload? |
| A. | Depending on your connection speed and the size of the video the time it requires to upload can vary anywhere from several minutes to several hours. Generally, if you are on a high-speed connection the average upload time is about 1-2 minutes for every 3 mb. However, the experience of every user may be different because of various connection speeds.
Note: This does not include the time it requires to process and convert the video to the FLV format so it can be streamed online. |
| Q. | How long does it take for my videos to process? |
| A. | The file size (MB) of the video plays the largest factor in how long the conversion process requires. On average the estimated encoding times are as follows:
Another factor that may affect the processing time is the weight of traffic on LearnHub. Generally, this will not play a role in process time. |
| Q. | How do I publish my video lesson to a community or course? |
| A. |
Once your video lesson has finished uploading, you will be automatically transfered to the video edit screen. There you can preview your lesson, modify your title, description, and tags. You may also publish your lesson from there. In the “Publishing” widget you will find a drop down box titled “Would you like to share your video?” with the options: 1. No, not yet: Your video will not be published. By selecting one of the options, a new box will pop up allowing you to check mark the communities or courses you wish to publish your video lesson in. You may publish your lesson in as many communities as you see fit. But remember, only publish in communities that relate to your lessons subject.
Note: You must be a member of the community before you can publish your video lesson to it. You do not have to be the community leader. |
| Q. | How do I delete a video lesson? |
| A. |
If you decide to completely remove one of your video lessons from LearnHub you can do this by clicking the red x found in your Workspaces video listing. Once you’ve removed your video it’s gone for good. You must upload it again if you change your mind. I highly recommend unpublishing your lesson from a community or course if you do not wish to delete it. Unpublishing hides your video from the public but does not actually delete it. |
| Q. | Who can view my video lessons? |
| A. | Depending on how you publish your video lesson greatly shapes who can, and who can’t view it. If you publish your video lesson publicly to one ore more communities, anyone who joins or browses the community can view your video. As well, your lesson will become visible in global searches. If you publish your video lesson privately to a course, only members who have enrolled in your course may view it. |
| Q. | How can I share my video lesson with others? | |
| A. |
There are three concrete ways to spread your video lesson to others around the internet: 1. Publish it to related communities: Publishing your lesson to one or more relating communities is the best way to attract members to it. You are directly targeting members who are interested in that subject matter. 2. ShareThis: Clicking the ShareThis link will give you the ability to share your lesson across many social and portal websites including: Facebook, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, Digg, and MySpace. 3. E-mail to a Friend: You can share your video lesson with friends not currently registered on LearnHub. By clicking on the ‘E-mail To A Friend’ link allows you to type in your friend(s) name, e-mail address, as well as a personal message. They will receive a message in their inbox with your message and a link to the video. You can share other members video lessons with your friends as well.
|
Fact: Publishing your video lessons to as many unrelated communities as possible is not a good way to promote your video. Those members will not be interested in your subject and the community moderator will most likely remove the lesson anyway. Be a considerate LearnHubber and only publish lessons to communities that relate to the topic. |
| Q. | How do I find videos lessons? |
| A. | There are two straightforward methods to finding video lessons that interest you. The first is by searching for the community by subject (example: math, science, geography). Once you join the community, you will find a host of lessons, tests, presentations, discussions and videos. You may also use the global search found at the top of any LearnHub page to search keywords. Community Search

|
| Q. | I can’t view videos… |
| A. | In order to view lesson videos on LearnHub you must have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed. It is also required that your web browser (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc.) is up to date. |
| Q. | Can I comment/rate video lessons I watch? |
| A. | Yes. In fact we encourage members to rate and comment on lessons they view. The more you do, the greater affect you have on how well ranked lessons are. If you rate a lesson ‘thumbs up’ you allow the lesson to climb up the ranking list making it more likely someone will want to read the lesson. If you rank a lesson ‘thumbs down’ you help lower the lessons ranking making it less likely someone will read a bad lesson. It is important you rate lessons on how you truly feel.
|
| Q. | What do I do if I find an inappropriate video? |
| A. | If you come across a video that you feel is inappropriate, please report it to support@learnhub.com immediately with the video URL. Community staff will remove the video right away. |
