Content Sharing

Learnhub allows you to share your lessons publicly or privately. How do you know which choice is best for you? Here’s a quick guide to help you choose!

When creating or editing your lesson, there will be a Publishing box on the left:

Here is a quick explanation of these three choices:

No, not yet. – No one will see this lesson except you. This is essential if you’re still working on a lesson and it’s not finished yet.

Yes, private in one or more courses. – This means no one will see the course unless they are enrolled in one of your courses with this lesson. If you choose this option, simply click on the courses you wish to insert this lesson in. Note: You must create a course first, in order to add lessons to it.

Yes, publicly in my Workspace and other areas. – If you choose this, everybody will be able to see this lesson. It will be shown in your Workspace, as well as in any communities you select to put this lesson in.

Which type of Publishing is best for me?

Benefits of Private Sharing

  • If your intended lessons or courses are highly specialized or for a specific group of people, it might be best to make it private. This way, you can filter out inappropriate comments by only enrolling students who are truly engaged, interested and/or knowledgeable in that course.

  • Having a lesson available privately only in a course is that you can set restrictions for enrolling students.

  • If the information you intend to publish is not a stand-a-lone, then it should not be published as such.

  • You may not want it published if it is part of your intellectual property and you want to sell or publish it on your own. Once you publish it as free and available to anyone it no longer is your intellectual property.

Major Downside:
Not everyone will get a chance to see your work.

Benefits of Public Sharing

  • Your lesson will be searchable anywhere on LearnHub.

  • You can share your lessons in communities, as well as courses which are private or public. Making your lessons public allows everyone to read your great content!

  • Other members can share their opinions and ideas with you can offer a more well-rounded discussion.

Major Downside:
You also may come across feedback which is unrelated or inappropriate for your lessons, or have people use your lessons without accrediting you since it is in the public domain.

I think the information given by Tiffany is well described and presented as far as from the publisher’s point of view, however there is a lot more to the subject than discussed. For instance, if the information being published is not a stand-a-lone it should not be published as such. Another reason you may not want it published is that it is part of your intellectual property and you want to sell or publish it on your own. Once you publish it as free and available to anyone it no longer is ‘your’ intellectual property. There are many more reasons but I felt these were the two most important.

Thanks babceo! I’ll add these to my lesson. I really appreciate it!
