Help: Communities

LearnHub is made up of user created Communities which are a destination of topical, member-driven knowledge. Search and join communities in any subject you wish to learn about, discuss or contribute to.

Can't find the community for you? Create one yourself.

Creating & Managing your own Community:
Who can create a community?
Anyone can. As long as your community is intended for educational purposes, there are no restrictions on topic or how many you can create.

Why should I create my own community?
As a community leader, you offer an open door destination for other users who share the same educational interest as you.

Being a community leader allows you to:
  • Manage a community surrounding a topic of your choice
  • Invite your friends and colleagues
  • Start community events, discussions, and debates
  • Encourage and inspire others
  • Moderate and drive the community in the direction of your choice

How do I create my own community?

There are two places you can find the "Start your own Community" button. The first being in the communities section. You will find the button at the very top-right of the page. The second spot is within any community, below the community description.
  1. Log in to LearnHub or Create an Account
  2. Click the "Start Your Own Community" button
  3. Title your community, choose a sub-domain, select a category, and enter a creative description.
  4. Click the "Next" button
  5. Upload a Community Image, if you choose. Or click "skip"
  6. You're community will be created and you will be automatically redirected to the communities splash page

How do I edit my community?
Within your community splash page, you can click the "Edit Your Community" button. You can modify your community title, category, description, as well replace or upload a new community photo.

You cannot change your subdomain once you've created your community. Please, be careful when choosing it during the creation process.

I know I have a subdomain, but what is it?
Each community is created with a subdomain; an easy to remember community URL address.
For example, the LearnHub Support community address is http://support.learnhub.com. The subdomain is the "support" part of the address.

LearnHub will automatically generate a subdomain for you based on your community title. If you decide to choose your own, be sure to make it simple, and be sure it relates to your community title.

Which category should I add my community to?
There are twenty categories you can choose from that may relate to your community subject.
When a user searches for a community, they can search a specific category. Choosing the correct category is up to the community leader.

Examples:
Biology ---> Sciences
Photography ---> Multimedia & Fine Arts
Cooperative Learning ---> Education & Training

Can I add my community to multiple categories?
No. You can only pick one category that best suits your community topic.

How can I add content to my community?
In order to add content to your community, you must first create it in your Workspace.  You can create Lesson Pages, Videos, Presentations, Tests, Concept Attainments, and Trivia. All these features can be published to any community you own or are a member of by using the "Public Sharing" widget in the editor.

For additional help on these features, check out the How to's on Lesson Pages, Video Lessons, Presentations, Tests, Concept Attainments, and Trivia.

Can I restrict who can join with privacy options?
No. All communities are publicly accessible by anyone. If you wish to create private material that only certain members are allowed to view, I suggest creating a course.

Can I moderate what content is added to my community?
At the moment, if you wish to remove a lesson from your community you should send a private message to the user asking them to remove it. If they don't comply, you can contact support@learnhub.com and a staff member will remove it.

How do I delete my community?
You'll find the "Retire Your Community" button below the "Invite People to Your Community" and the "Edit Your Community". Simply click the button to remove your community.

Photo 1785

Can I invite others to my community?
Yes. You can invite both your LearnHub contacts as well as your friends outside of LearnHub using the "Invite People to Your Community" button.

Using the invite tool you can invite LearnHub users by typing their username. You can also import your Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Google Mail, and personal Address book contacts. If you wish to invite someone that isn't in one of your address books, simply enter their e-mail address and they will get the invite.

Being apart of other Communities:
How do I search for a community?
You can search for communities using our search tool found here. You have three different search attributes that effect your results. The first being the search bar, which you can type in specific word tags. The second is choosing the language, which will seek out the language of your choosing. Lastly is searching specific categories which will only show results of communities linked to that specific category.

How do I join a community?
Once you've found a community, simply enter the main splash page and click the "Join This Community" found at the top right of the page.

How do I leave a community?
You can find the "Leave This Community" button found just below the Leader's mini-profile on the right side of the screen.

I'm not the Community Leader, can I still publish content to it?
Of course. You only need to be a member of the community to post content to it. Once a member, the community will show up in your your Lesson Editor, Video or Presentation edit screen, and Test edit screen.

What do I do when I see an inappropriate community?
You can "report" the community anonymously and we will remove it right away. To report it, simply e-mail support@learnhub.com with the community link.

We will release the “Community Invite” feature early next week. Sorry for the delay with that!

You can invite people to Courses either when you create the course, or afterwards by clicking the “Edit Course” button on the top left corner of the Course home page.

Thats right, you can invite both your LearnHub contacts, as well as people outside of LearnHub with e-mail addresses.

How do I add my Course to the Marketplace? When I browse the Marketplace I do not see my course listed. I am only able to find my course when I index keywords in my course. When I edited my course, I checked off the listed communities – but still do not see the Course showing up in those communities???

I’m also having problems getting my course to show up in my community. Is there a special trick, or is this a bug?

Also, would be great if courses displayed in the main content window of my community, rather than in the right-hand widget. Is this possible?

Currently the plan is to greatly overhaul the Marketplace which will improve finding and sharing courses and tutoring. As well linking a course through a community should be greatly improved.

For now, the best way to promote your course is through lessons, discussions, as well as inviting users through the course tools.

Can I upload a course created in Adobe Captivate 3 course to Learnhub presentation? I know that Powerpoint presentations can be imported into Learnhub presentation – but wonder if this can also be done with a course created in Adobe Captivate 3.

Unfortunately there is no easy way we can convert an Adobe Captivate course to our system. In order to create content for your course you have to create individual lessons and evaluations and publish them to your course. From there you can organize them within your course.
